I believe many of us don’t really understand what it means to correct or cancel people. The Truth is that, Christian public figures may get it wrong once in a while.
As much as correction from authorities is important to set the records right so that others will not be swept into error. It is important we apply discretion lest we slip into cancellation.
Here is the Difference.
1. Ebuka songs is not a minister, He is an entertainer. He doesn’t even have a relationship with God—This is cancellation.
2. Ebuka was very wrong to have brought peller to a Live stream. He shouldn’t have done that. Even though Maybe He is on a mission to convert the young man, He should have done it privately than publicly.—This is correction and criticism.
3. Ebuka songs is a content creator. He is not a minister. Na una Dey take this Gospel artists them serious—This is cancellation.
4. Ebuka songs shouldnt have allowed peller mock tongues and prophecy. He should have put the records straight up for Him and defend the sacredness of our Faith. It is wrong to mock prophecy and tongues in the name of content and Live stream—This is correction and criticism.
5. Ebuka songs is carnal. I have stopped listening to His music self. That man is not spiritual. He is fake—This is cancellation.
Cancellation focuses on attacking the person and ruling Him out. It focuses on concluding on the person and assa**ating His entirety of personhood and all the good He has ever done.
Correction focuses on the wrong that was done, corrects the brother and sets the record straight on what it should be.
While it is Okay to write on trending issues from the errors of public figures within the Christian space. It is more important not to slip into cancellation out of emotional outbursts.
My take on this has always been—While speaking out and setting the records straight for the sanity of our Faith is necessary.
After your Hot take whether for Good or bad. And no matter the tone, Take some time and intercede for a Brother or Sister you think is in Error this is righteousness and Love.
First, this is to save your heart from the demons of “Judgementalism” and also help you find mercy in the days of your own errors and lastly the Brother will find spiritual strength enough to receive all the rebukes and do better.
This will be my last input on this.
God help us.
